Beginning in 2009 Mia has lived in, taught workshops and classes and created murals with Pina Palmera, a rehab center for people with different abilities in Oaxaca Mexico.
For Day of Inclusion, Mia holds workshops using recycled materials to create a large puppet that depicts a mythical giant who uses a wheelchair, at times sitting and others we see them floating above. We created this as a means for celebration and pride of the other, and everything we represent. We took the puppet on a procession around town amongst other inclusion activities. We also marched with the, I AM WE painting that was part of the Zapantera Negra project. “I AM WE”: the dialectics of Political Will in the Huey P. Newton and Black Panther Party.
